What this sector actually does

Getting electricity into a rack and heat out of it is now a first-order design constraint. Power density per rack has risen sharply, and conventional air cooling runs out of headroom well before the chips do.

This sector sells the equipment that solves it — power distribution, thermal management, liquid cooling. Its customers are data-center operators rather than chipmakers, so it tracks construction more than silicon.

Common questions

Why is cooling suddenly a bottleneck?

AI racks can draw many times the power of a traditional server rack, and essentially all of it becomes heat. Beyond a certain density, air cannot carry it away fast enough.

What is liquid cooling?

Circulating fluid to carry heat directly away from components rather than relying on airflow. It handles far higher densities but changes how the facility must be built and maintained.

How is this different from power generation?

This sector moves power around and removes heat inside the facility. Power generation produces the electricity in the first place.
